A MAN was assaulted after opening his front door to someone he knew.

Blackburn magistrates heard Elliot Lee Boothman did not say anything to his victim before punching him repeatedly about the face and head.

The court was told Boothman then got back into the car that had brought him and was driven off.

Boothman, 21, of Hornby Street, Accrington, pleaded guilty to assaulting Adam Barrass. He was ordered to pay £100 compensation, £85 costs and £85 victim surcharge and made subject to a curfew for eight weeks between 7 pm and 6 am.

Enza Geldard, prosecuting, said Mr Barrass was at home at around 5.30 pm when there was a knock on the window and Boothman asked him to come to the front door so he could speak to him.

"When Mr Barrass opened the door there was no conversation," said Mrs Geldard. "Boothman punched the other man repeatedly about the head and face before walking back to the car he had arrived in and leaving."

Gareth Price, defending, said there had been an incident the night before when Mr Barrass had behaved inappropriately towards his client's girlfriend.

"When he learned about that behaviour my client phoned Mr Barras and sent him messages but got no reply," said Mr Price. "He did not get a response and when he was passing knocked on the aggrieved's door still intending to speak to him about what had happened. He accepts that when the other man opened the door the red mist descended and he lashed out."
