A MAN suffered serious head injuries after he was hit by a car in Accrington last night.

The pedestrian, a 37-year-old from Accrington, was injured in the incident which involved a black Toyota Yaris car.

Police said the accident happened close to the Acorn Primary Health Care Centre on Blackburn Road at around 4pm.

The man was treated at the scene by paramedics before being taken to Royal Preston Hospital.

Police said he suffered serious but not life threatening head injuries.

The road was closed as emergency services dealt with the accident and rush hour traffic was backed up in the area.

Sgt Claire Pearson, of Lancashire Police, said: "We are investigating following a road traffic collision in Accrington.

"A 37-year-old man has suffered head injuries and we want to establish exactly what happened.

"If you witnessed the incident, please call us."
