ACCRINGTON Stanley's players have been banned from using a pub and hotel they used to be picked up for away games.

The Windmill pub in Tabley, Cheshire, is used by many teams for the team coaches to pick up players and drop them off.

It's used because it has a large car park and is close to the motorway network and to where many of the players live in Cheshire, Greater Manchester and Merseyside.

A sign currently outside the pub, states: "The following football teams are banned from The Windmill due to lack of respect towards members of the public, staff members of The Windmill and by not doing what has been asked.

"Accrington Stanley, Stalybridge FC, Bury FC and Rochdale FC.

"Each individual player is responsible for the whole team without exception.

"Failure to comply will result in a police escort from the premises, letter out to the local newspapers and teams added to the above list."

A spokesman for the pub, which also has a restaurant and accommodation said: "We have around 16 or 18 football teams who use us as a picking up point as well as rugby teams and netball teams.

"Most of them are no problem at all but we've had issues with some.

"This is not applicable to the club's fans who have always been fine.

"We've noticed some players eat their own food at our outside tables, leave litter and have had run ins with the staff.

"There have also been cases where they shelter in the doorway of the pub if it's raining and put their bags inside while they wait for the coach.

"It's not as if they are paying customers, we've got to the end of our tether.

"As long as the current management is in place the ban on these clubs will remain."

A spokesman from Accrington Stanley said they would not be commenting on the matter.
