A MAN who ‘borrowed’ his mum’s car to run his girlfriend home crashed into a stone wall on his way back home.

Blackburn magistrates heard Dylan Brown’s mum was away at the time of the incident and had not been pleased to find her car was a write off when she returned home.

But the court was told Brown had used all his savings to buy her a better car and pay for tax and insurance for it, Brown, 20, of Marlborough Road, Accrington, pleaded guilty to failing to stop after an accident, driving without insurance and other than in accordance with a licence.

He was fined £400 with £150 criminal court charge, £85 costs and £20 victim surcharge.

His licence was endorsed with eight penalty points which resulted in a six month totting up ban.

Deborah Morgan, defending, said Brown’s mum was on holiday and he took the foolish decision to borrow her car to run his girlfriend home rather than wait for a taxi.

“His impatience has proved costly,” said Miss Morgan.

“He is a hard working young man and had saved over £2,000 himself, which he has now spent replacing his mum’s car.”
