TV AUCTION king Jesse McClure brought the hard sell to Accrington when he launched a new online site for the town’s historic market hall.

But the Storage Hunters star’s bid to win £10,000 for Accrington Stanley fell short of the mark just down the road a short time later.

The California-born star came up short with three attempts to win a half-time crossbar challenge at the Storefirst Stadium.

He was aiming to secure the loot from Scott Dawson Advertising for a new van to transport players to training but saw efforts from the halfway line, 40 yards out and the edge of the penalty area fail to register.

Lancashire Telegraph:

Jesse arrived at Accrington Market Hall to be greeted by fans and members of Hyndburn Council, including the Mayor, to open Accrington Markets online shopping website.

Afterwards the veteran of Freeview channel Dave, who saw Stanley turn over Plymouth with the return of John Coleman, was undaunted.

Later he said on Twitter: “Thanks to everyone who came out to the Accrington Stanley match to cheer me on for the cross bar challenge. I’ll be back again soon.”

Earlier this year Jesse, who comes from a family of Los Angeles County antique sellers, told of his affinity for the League Two battlers.

He first became involved after helping Storefirst, Accrington’s main sponsors, to launch a new store in Preston and featured on Sky Sports’ Soccer AM in Stanley gear.

Earlier in the day he helped Hyndburn Mayor Coun Munsif Dad to kick off a new online shop for Accrington Market, arriving in an army jeep to sign autographs and took part in a Storage Hunters- style auction with fans as part of the launch.

Later he tried tripe on the market and ‘helped’ out at a number of stalls, including Slacks the Butchers amd Roosters Hen House.

Coun Dad said: “Jesse was brilliant – not only did he help to launch the website but he also took the opportunity to help out my mayoral charities. We charged one pound for every photo or autograph to raise money for some good causes.” But unfortunately for Jesse his jeep, left on the pedestrianised precinct outside the market, was given a parking ticket by an eagle-eyed traffic warden.

He also took part in a question-and-answer session at The Crown pub, after the Stanley game, and took part in another auction at the Whalley Road hostelry.
