A 26-YEAR-OLD Accrington man claimed he found a bin bag containing cannabis plants while out walking his dog.

Blackburn magistrates heard police later found the plants growing in a wardrobe at Philip Simon Whitehead’s home.

Whitehead, of Waterloo Street, pleaded guilty to producing cannabis.

He was remanded on bail for the preparation of a pre-sentence report.

Catherine Allan, prosecuting, said police had gone to Whitehead’s home on another matter not related to drugs which did not result in any charge.

“During the course of their investigation they discovered a small cannabis set-up in a wardrobe,” said Miss Allan.

She said the 10 plants would have an estimated yield of 400 grammes with a street value of £4,000.

Paul Huxley, defending, said Whitehead had been out walking his dog when he came across the bag with a cannabis plant sticking out of the top.

“He took it home and discovered there was more than one plant and set them up in his bedroom,” said Mr Huxley.

“He had the plants for about two weeks.”
