A TAXI driver has been accused of a sex attack on a female passenger.

Mohammed Ishaq, of Crossland Street, Accrington, is alleged to have attacked the woman after taking her home.

The 35-year-old woman was picked up a taxi in Accrington after a night out with friends, police said.

She was driven to her home address where it is alleged Ishaq followed her inside before carrying out an attack.

Police said they had carried out immediate forensic investigations after the woman contacted police.

It has not been revealed what firm Ishaq works for.

Hyndburn Taxi Association’s Chairman Mohammed Arif said members had been shocked by the allegations.

He said: “It has been very shocking news for the association to hear that a matter like this involving a taxi driver is being heard in court.

“Obviously we don’t know the full story yet, but it is very bad news to hear. We will wait to see what transpires in court.”

Ishaq appeared before Blackburn magistrates earlier this week charged with oral rape.

Basharat Ditta, defending the 38-year-old taxi driver said his client denied the allegation.

Ishaq was sent in custody to Preston Crown Court where he will appear on August 24.
