A TEENAGER was rushed to hospital with head injuries after he was hit by a car in Clayton-le-Moors this morning.
The 18-year-old was struck in Dunkenhalgh Way, off Blackburn Road, around 5.20am.
Police closed the road for nearly three hours.
Inspector Gary Crowe said officers initially feared the teenager might be badly injured, but his condition stabilised at Royal Blackburn Hospital.
He said: “He was conscious and awake in hospital later that day.
“At this stage there is nothing to lead us to believe the driver was at fault. Alcohol is not believed to be an issue, nor speed.
“It is believed the pedestrian, who was walking with two friends, has stepped into the path of the oncoming vehicle, for reasons we are as yet unsure of.”
A formal accident investigation team is analysing the crash.
