Sexual assault on Accrington girl, 14

A 14-year-old girl has been sexually assaulted on a path used as a shortcut in Accrington.

The teenager was walking along a path between Lonsdale Street and Scaitcliffe Street, known locally as the ‘black path’, when she was approached from behind by a man.

He grabbed her arms and pushed her against a fence before subjecting her to a sexual assault.

The girl fought off the attacker and ran to the skate park in Eagle Street.

The attacker is described as Asian, around 40 years old, 6ft, of large build and wearing a black hooded top with white fur.

The incident happened on Sunday at 8.30pm, but police have only just released the details.

Detective Sergeant Paul Langley said: “This was an extremely traumatic assault carried out on a young, lone girl who was using the path as a shortcut into the town centre.

“These types of incidents are rare but I would urge the public to take sensible precautions whilst out after dark and stay within well-lit areas.”

it must be a nightmare for young girls ,looking attractive for the boys But at the same time in danger from older men with perverse ideas OR AS THE STATE CALLS THEM PEADOFILES .she probably a victim of new britain and with the help of csa scaring dads away , cus lets face it its a fathers duty to his girl and society to look out for his vunerable daughters interests . football ,work and the pub should not take priority over keeping kids safe and until the people of this country starts giving a **** instead of blaming and expecting everyone else to do their job it isnt going to get better,.every day we here of kids out at night drinking and misbehaving dont wait till its yours .act now . . . . .

Metro, you are an idiot!!! Where in this article does it say that this young girl comes from a single parent family? Where does it say that she was misbehaving? The fact is that she was a victim of a terrible crime from a pervert(who is 40 and not an out of control teenager!!)when she was probably on her way home at a reasonable time for a 14 year old. I really don't understand where you are coming from with your comments? Is her Dad supposed to be with her 24/7? I am a Dad and I would have my child 24/7 if I could, but that simply is not possible is it. You state that the CSA scare dads away too, rubbish!! I would die for my son and NOBODY would stop me being in his life, I WANT to give money to help in his upbringing, the 'dads' that run away from the CSA are the ones in the wrong not the CSA!! They don't deserve kids! But that is digressing, the fact is you could be the best parent in the world but you cannot foresee things like this happening to your own. You have indirectly insulted this girls father without knowing a single thing about him, you are a disgrace and sound to me like you need to educate yourself a lot more, and I don't just mean your spelling!! pillock!!!

I just hope he's named & shamed & I hope those who know this guy or suspect him has the decency to come forward. I hope the "community" are not protecting this scum!

Hope the poor girl recieves the help to get through this experience. But realistically that pig has ruined her life, as she'll never forget.

I feel sick that this has happend, I walk along that path everyday. sometimes late on the way home from work. I cant believe that this has happend to someone. Nobody is safe anywhere.
