Giant lorry stuck under Accrington bridge causes traffic jams

A LORRY stuck under a bridge caused major traffic chaos this afternoon.

The lorry with its massive load became jammed in Dunkenhalgh Way, Accrington, close to the roundabout for junction seven of the M65 at around 1pm.

Police were forced to close one lane of the dual carriageway, and the knock-on congestion spread to the motorway itself.

Firefighters were able to free the vehicle later in the afternoon and police then reopened the road.

The vehicle did not get stuck under the bridge, as it approached, it realised that it could not go under, no damage has been done to the bridge and the fire brigade was not trying to free the vehicle. The vehicle was waiting for a lower wagon to arrive.

LT got it wrong again. Fire crews? Freeing trapped vehicle? Nonsense.
.
I was in the vicinity, the driver was reversing cos he couldn't get under the bridge. The police allowed him to travel down the opposite carriageway to pass through.
.
No truth in the rumour that the driver was intoxicated, but he probably needs a stiff drink tonight!!! LOL!

And all they were trying to do was to bring new frosted glass windows to the new Darwin Leisure centre so capita could go swimming without being spied upon by all the perverts out there
