Arrest after schoolboy knocked down in Oswaldtwistle

A MAN has been arrested on suspicious of dangerous driving after a boy was knocked down on a footpath in Oswaldtwistle today.

At 8.30am, 14-year-old Ben Forrest was walking to Rhyddings High School when police said a silver Citroen Saxo travelling towards Church lost control, mounted the pavement and hit him.

Ben was taken to Royal Blackburn Hospital with a suspected broken arm and broken leg and he is currently waiting for a scan to see if he has suffered any head injuries. His injuries are not thought to be life threatening and his family are with him at hospital.

Market Street was closed for two-and-a-half hours to allow accident investigation to take place and police are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

Sgt Pete Sculpher from Eastern Division’s Road Policing Unit said: “I urge anyone who saw what happened or who has any information about the collision to contact us 01254 51212.”

A 26-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving.

Ben was on the path alongside the Church and Oswaldtwistle railway station.
