A WOMAN caught stealing baby clothes from Asda could offer no explanation for her behaviour.

Blackburn magistrates heard Elzbieta Katarzyba Klas was so puzzled by her behaviour she had been to see her doctor.

Klas, 45, of Joe Connolly Way, Waterfoot, pleaded guilty to stealing baby clothes worth £106 from Asda in Accrington. She was given a conditional discharge for six months and ordered to pay £85 costs and £20 victim surcharge.

Scott Parker, defending, said his client, who works as a housekeeper, had no babies in her family and was totally at a loss to explain her behaviour.

"She has been to see her GP because there is obviously a problem behind this impulsive act," said Mr Parker. "She is at a loss to explain how or why the offence has come about and is very upset and embarrassed."
