THE new licensee and chef of a village pub has been 'overwhelmed with support' after reopening following a refurbishment.

The Stanhill Pub and Kitchen in Oswaldtwistle reopened after more than £300,000 was spent renovating the premises.

During that time new licensee and chef Brian Healy has taken over running the venue with Star Pubs & Bars.

Mr Healy grew up in Blackburn and previously ran Healy’s Wine Bar and Brasserie in Accrington before fire forced its closure last year.

He said: "We're just overwhelmed with the support the locals are giving us.

"It is going very well, the feedback we've been getting is great.

"They're helping bring it back into life as a village pub."

The pub now employs 17 people and has to have a booking system as it fills it most evenings.

Mr Healy said his tapas is proving a particular hit with guests.

The outside of the building was restored and repainted while the inside was completely redecorated and refurbished.

The garden also received a makeover with new decking and seating for 70 as well as a secure children’s play area.

Hyndburn MP Graham Jones visited recently and praised the work done.

He said: "It is good to see investment in Hyndburn.

"Pubs and pub-restaurants play a vital role in communities."

The pub also has its own house beer, Hargreaves Ale, to commemorate the inventor of the Spinning Jenny, created in Oswaldtwistle.
