A 22-YEAR-OLD suffering from quadriplegic cerebral palsy will deliver a petition to the Houses of Parliament as part of a campaign to improve conditions across the country for people with disabilities.

Zack Kerr, from Howard Close, Accrington, has collected over 100,000 signatures in support of his online petition to install accessible changing room facilities at all UK motorway service stations.

After months of campaigning Zack’s local MP Graham Jones has secured the former Beaumont College student’s visit to London to meet the Transport Minister, Paul Maynard on Wednesday November 29.

His father, Ceri Davies, said: “Zack is still buzzing from the news. We didn’t think we would ever get to this stage.

“It was Graham Jones who said to Zack early on in the campaign he would help him to get the petition to Parliament.

“At the time I thought it he was joking because I didn’t think the campaign would get this far.

“But this month we got an email from his Parliament secretary saying Graham has secured a meeting with Paul Maynard.

“Paul is one of the few MPs that has a disability and we expect him to be understanding to our cause.

“The minister has been involved in writing a paper about plans for airport and train travel but not about people using own transport and mobility services.

“More needs to be done for people who use mobility vehicles and people who use their own vehicles to stop on motorways.”

According to Zack’s father there has been some support from MPs but not across the whole house.

Zack and his family have said they will be bringing some campaign banners and posters which will be put up in the houses of Parliament to garner support from other MPs.

Zack’s father hopes this will help to raise awareness with the MPs who have never considered this an issue.

The Hyndburn MP has also arranged a tour of the Chamber for Zack where he will be able to sit in a house of Commons debate which will be taking on the same day in the public gallery.

Mr Davies added: “Zack has never been to London. We have been booking hotels this week and looking at seeing a show to make a trip of it down there.”
