PEOPLE have been having their say on plans for a proposed new £2million community sports hub after plans were submitted last month.

Approximately 60 comments of support have been received by Hyndburn Council for the plans by Accrington Stanley Community Trust to build the new facility at Higham's Playing Field in Thorneyholme Road.

Plans include a full-size floodlit artificial football pitch, three grass pitches a new building, an artificial cricket wicket and a 55-space car park.

Colin Cooper from Thornhill Avenue in Rishton said: "Investment in more sports facilities in Hyndburn like those proposed are much needed and I am happy to support the proposal."

Scott Barnes from Haywood Road in Accrington said: "Well why not, great prospects and activities for all ages."

Meanwhile more than 20 comments of objection have been submitted against the plans.

Miss Dawson, from Clifton Avenue, said: "Please don't take away our only green space in the Laneside area, the fields are there for everyone to enjoy."

A 'Save Higham's Playing Fields' group was set up earlier this year by Cllr Malcolm Pritchard in a bid to keep the field open to the public.
