HYNDBURN MP Graham Jones is continuing his campaign to save the walk-in centre at Accrington Victoria after it received its latest reprieve earlier this year.

Accrington Victoria Hospital’s GP centre had been due to close at the end of September to be replaced with new ‘health hubs’, run by a consortium of GPs.

However the centre is now on its sixth stay of execution after it was decided it would remain open until spring next year.

And Mr Jones wants to see the walk-in centre remain open long term.

He said on social media: “I continue to campaign to save the walk-in centre at Accrington Victoria.

“It is currently on its sixth stay of execution.

“I have been supported by my colleague and labour health spokesperson Jonathan Ashworth who came to visit Accrington Victoria this summer.

“I think everybody knows that’s a huge majority of people in this constituency once the Health Access Centre to remain open.”

The walk-in centre is the open access GP surgery run by GPs working for East Lancashire Medical Services.

It is the place people go to when they cannot get a GP appointment or an out of hours appointment.
