A STOLEN car was found on fire in the middle of a playing field last night, police said.
A green Volvo V70 was found on fire in the middle of King George's Playing Field, Royds Avenue, Accrington at 11.30pm.
Firefighters and the police attended the scene.
A spokesman for Lancashire Fire said: "The vehicle was driven round and dumped in the middle of the football fields.
"It was fully alight and totally destroyed.
"It seems the vehicle had been burning for quite some time."
Police have now launched an ongoing investigation.
A police spokesman said: "A car has been stolen, driven onto the playing fields and set on fire.
"We have been trying to get hold of the owner to make them aware.
"Anyone who has any information should call 101 with the reference number 1560."
