AN NHS worker has appealed for help after his 'family heirloom' was stolen at work.

Karl Dootson, 25, on Whalley Road, Accrington had his bike stolen from the car park of the Acorn Medical Centre, on Blackburn Road, Accrington.

The bike theft was reported to Lancashire Police on Wednesday between 8am to 1.30pm.

The bright green Cannondale bicycle, which was originally worth £600, was handed down to Karl from his father, John.

His father was advised not to ride a bike anymore when he picked up an ankle injury.

Karl, who has worked as a medical receptionist at the Oswald medical centre for two and a half years, said: "I got this from my father as a gift. He had passed the bike to me was so I could always get to him if need be.

“I use the bike to cycle to Blackburn to visit my parents on Saturdays so the theft of this bike would cause problems in the sense it will disrupt my ability to see my family.

“To have lost a family heirloom that meant the world to me is very sad.

"I wanted to keep hold of it and want to pass it down my children.

“It would be appreciated if the general public can help."

A spokesman for Accrington Police said: "The theft is currently under investigation and we are appealing for witnesses.

"If anybody has seen the stolen bike please contact us on 101."
