AN Accrington councillor has said she is against a proposed new 17 bed house for the homeless set to go before the planning committee today.

Proposals were submitted to Hyndburn Council earlier this year by Steve Pickles for 24 Barnes Street in Accrington to be converted into a house of multiple occupancy.

The decision is now set to go before the planning committee today and is recommended for approval.

This is despite a petition being signed by 87 residents against the plans.

Cllr Joyce Plummer, who represents the area on Hyndburn Council, said she is firmly against the plans.

She said: “Residents are in uproar about this.

“It’s the last thing we need in an area high in crime.

“This is not something that I support.”

Lancashire Police said there have been ‘high levels of crime’ recorded near the property in the past year.

The meeting will take place at Scaitcliffe House in Ormerod Street from 2pm.
