RESIDENTS will have to undergo ‘short term problems to enjoy long term gains’ with road resurfacing work.

Roe Greave Road in Oswaldtwistle will be undergoing carriageway works from Lancashire County Council.

A notice prohibiting traffic on the road will be in place from Monday until August 7 from 9am until 3.30pm each day.

However, the street is ‘chocked full with hundreds of parked’ cars which will forced to be moved while the work goes ahead.

County Council bosses said the work will provide a new surface to last for ‘many years to come’.

Cllr Judith Addison, who represents the Immanuel Ward for Hyndburn Council where the road is, has raised concerns where the cars will go.

She said: “God knows where all the cars will park, it is also chock-a-block with cars.

“I’ve never found it with no cars on it in normal circumstances.

“A lot of households will have two or more cars, and with them being terraced houses they don’t have garages.

“I’m sure the work is needed and will have long term benefits, it will just be an inconvenience while it takes place.

Work will take place all along the straight road from Union Road to Rhoden Road.

County council bosses said resurfacing work will begin on Monday, July 24, and take two weeks.

People who own a vehicle will be asked not to park anywhere in the vicinity of the works between 8am and 4pm.

Oswaldtwistle County Cllr Peter Britcliffe said: “Obviously I’m delighted that we’ve managed to get the road resurfaced.

“It’s clearly going to be a problem in the short-term because there are so many residents parked in the road.

“But in the long term Roe Greave Road is going to be greatly improved.

“As the saying goes to make an omelette you have to break a few eggs.”

A County Council spokesman said: “We have written to residents in Roe Greave Road and the surrounding area to let them know that we are planning to resurface the road.

“We’re sorry for any disruption while this work is carried out."
