A MAN has been left with serious injuries after being hit by a car following a brawl in the street, police said.

Two groups were seen fighting with weapons outside the Hare and Hounds pub in Clayton-le-Moors at around 9.20pm.

Officers said six men have now been arrested after one man was left with a serious leg injury after being hit by a car.

It comes days after shots were fired at a 60-year-old woman in Accrington, however police said they do not believe the two incidents are linked.

Officers said there have been issues between rival gangs in the Hyndburn area recently and they are working to tackle it.

A police spokesman said: “We are investigating an incident of violent disorder between two groups which saw a man seriously injured.

“The incident happened at around 9.20pm outside the Hare and Hounds pub between Burnley Road, Blackburn Road and Whalley Road in Clayton-le-Moors yesterday evening.

“There appears to have been a confrontation between two groups who having exited their vehicles and commenced fighting in the street with weapons. 

“A 37-year-old man suffered a serious leg injury after being hit by a car and was taken to Royal Preston Hospital where he remains in a serious but stable condition. 

“Six men have been arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm and four cars - a black BMW, a black Renault Megane, a blue Volkswagen Golf, and a blue Mercedes C220 – have all been seized as part of the investigation.”

Det Ch Insp Jill Johnstone said: “We do not believe that this is linked to the firearm discharge in Accrington earlier this week, however we are aware of recent on-going issues in the Hyndburn area between rival gangs and we are working to tackle it.

“These are isolated incidents between people who are known to each other and there isn’t thought to be any threat to the wider public but residents will see an increased police presence in the area which we hope will provide some reassurance.
