TWO men smashed their way into a house and robbed a pensioner as he lay in bed.

Detectives said the thieves prised a sovereign ring from the 72-year-old victim's finger as well as snatching a chain from round his neck.

The pair, who smashed a downstairs window before climbing in, also tried to remove the victim's wristwatch.

Officers have released CCTV images of three men they are trying to trace in connection with the robbery in Greaves Street, Great Harwood.

The victim, who is being supported by officers and his family, was said to have been 'left shaken' but was unhurt.

Det Sgt Rob Trickett said: “This is a shocking incident involving an elderly man who was robbed, while he was in bed in his own home.

"He is understandably shaken by what has happened and is being supported by officers at this time.

"Enquiries to trace those responsible are already underway.

"We would urge anyone who may have witnessed anyone acting suspiciously in the area, or any of the males in the stills, to contact us.”

The robbery took place at around midnight on Thursday. As well as the jewellery the victim was wearing, the thieves took a number of other watches.

Officers said they are also keen to speak to a fourth man, who is believed to have walked past the three men and could be a witness.

Anyone who recognises the three men, or the possible witness, is urged to call police on 101 quoting log 10 of May 18th.
