A TEAM of Tesco staff are urging women across the area to take part in a charity run.

Five women from the Great Harwood store are running the Race for Life Blackburn 5k at Witton Park on Wednesday, June 28, to raise money for Cancer Research UK.

Sue Pearson, from Baxenden, is leading the charge after losing her mum Patricia Cropper to bladder cancer.

The 56-year-old said: “It was a huge shock losing my mum to cancer, she had always lived life to the full with bags of energy.

“She was always young at heart but those last few months of her life certainly took its toll.

“I am so proud to join the fight at Race for Life. We’re proof that women of all ages and abilities can take on the challenge.”

After suffering severe stomach pains, her mum was diagnosed with cancer in 2012.

She recovered and celebrated her 80th birthday with a trip to Hong Kong before the cancer returned to her kidney’s and she died aged 81.

Miss Pearson is now calling for more women of all shapes and sizes to sign up to the charity run.

Charity spokesman Jane Bullock said: “By taking part in Race for Life, women in Lancashire can help raise funds for crucial research and make a real difference in the fight against cancer.

“It’s not about being first over the finish line, it’s the taking part that counts.”
