A CURRY house is starting a new scheme to ‘give something back to the community’ and help feed those in need.

The Balti House in High Street, Rishton, will be welcoming around 70 people in need to come for a free meal at the end of this month.

The restaurant will be carrying out the event for the first time and will aim to make it a monthly occasion, although it has been involved in charitable work before.

Hussain Rashid, who runs the restaurant with his brothers, said they are hosting the night to show thanks for ‘how lucky they are’.

Mr Rashid said: “We want to give those who can’t afford it a treat, we’ll treat them like regular paying customer and make them feel special.

“It’s just the way we were raised by our parents we want to help people how we can, we realise how lucky we are.

“It’s just about doing a good deed and giving something back to the community.

“We could be in that position one day, and we want to help those people in need.”

The first event, hosted by Mr Rashid and his brothers Harry, Mahfooz and Mahmoon, will take place on Tuesday, March 28, will feed elderly people in need.

Each month they will then invite another group in need in the community and ask them to come for a two-course meal and drinks, free of charge.

Hyndburn Helpers, which gives out support and food to vulnerable kitchen two evenings a week from St James Church in Accrington, is helping the restaurant identify who to invite.

The Balti House has previously helped those in need by donating food parcels to those in need and holding raffle night to raise money for charity.

It also did the catering for the Hyndburn Helpers second birthday celebrations last year for free.

Lisa Hilton, volunteer at Hyndburn Helpers, said it is a great gesture by the brothers.

She said: “It’s so nice of them just to give something back to the community.

“This month we’re targetting older people to help, then the plan for next month is to look at people from Red Rose Recovery.

“The more people we can get along the better.”
