AN 81-year-old motorist has walked away unhurt after his car careered across a street and smashed into a neighbour's conservatory in Oswaldtwistle.

But police have confirmed that a building inspector is being called in to inspect the structural condition of the sun room at a property in Larch Road, after a VW Polo was left embedded in the front of it.

Insp Jon Fryer said the driver was taken to the Royal Blackburn Hospital by family members, after the collision, to be checked over.

"It appears that the driver has lost control but no-one has been physically injured," he added.

The driver, who asked not to be named, said: "It's a source of some embarrassment for me.

"I was reversing out and I don't know how but the accelerator seems to have stuck.

"I'm fit as a fiddle and I've got eight or nine year's no claims bonus so I'll be off to the doctors tomorrow."

The owners of the affected house declined to comment.
