A DOG was rescued from a 'serious' house fire in Accrington.

The blaze occurred in Albert Street at around 3am and it was thought people were trapped inside at the time.

Crews from Hyndburn, Haslingden and Rawtenstall attended the scene and put out the fire using breathing apparatus, hose reels and an aerial ladder platform.

The dog was safely rescued and returned to its owners.

A fire service spokesman said: "The fire is believed to have started in the front bedroom and quickly spread to the roof.

"The fire is being investigated but is thought to be accidental."
