A MAN who was thrown from his car after a road accident was later air-lifted to hospital.

The collision happened at around 10.40am today on Broadfield, Oswaldtwistle.

It involved a black Audi A4 and a red Renault Clio.

Police said a male passenger in his 20s in one of the cars was thrown out of the vehicle.

He was later transported to Royal Preston Hospital by Air Ambulance to be treated for spinal injuries.

The female drive of the second car was trapped in the vehicle and was freed by firefighters.

She was taken to Royal Blackburn Hospital with back injuries.

The injuries to both are not thought to be life threatening.

A fire service spokesman, said: "Two fire engines from Rawtensall and Haslingden attended a road traffic collision involving two cars in Oswaldtwistle.

"Firefighters worked with paramedics to release one person from the car and two people were taken to hospital.

"Crews were at the scene for approximately an hour."

The road was closed for investigations and clear-up and was re-opened at 1.15pm.
