POLICE are appealing for information following an attempted robbery in Accrington.

At around 9pm on Tuesday, June 7 two 18-year-old men were close to the ginnel between Buckingham Grove and Dill Hall Lane when they were approached by two older men who attacked them and demanded their mobile phones.

One of the men was in possession of a snooker/pool cue. The victims, who received cuts and bruises in the attack, managed to get away without handing over any property.

It is believed the two men had followed the victims from Hyndburn Leisure Centre from the direction of Church.

The first attacker who was in possession of the cue is described as white, around 5ft 7in to 5ft 10in tall, medium/muscular build, aged in his early thirties, bald head and was wearing a light blue Nike jacket, blue and white checked shorts and black trainers.

The second is also described as white, around 5ft 7in to 5ft 10in tall and was of a slim build, tanned complexion, aged in his mid-20s and had short dark hair that was receding.

He was wearing a white polo shirt with shorts which had red and black feathers on them.

DS Andy Horne of East CID said: “This was a nasty attack on two young men who thankfully only received minor injuries.

"We are keen to hear from anyone who may have been passing by in the vicinity around the time of the attack.

"If you have any information that could help us track these two men down, or if you recognise their descriptions, please get in touch with us as soon as possible.”
