A SHOCKING video of thugs brawling in the street has gone viral.

Police have branded the men involved in the fight in Accrington town centre ‘loutish’ and said they are making enquiries to identify who they are.

No-one has pressed charges against anyone involved in the fight, but police were yesterday checking hospitals to see if anyone involved had been admitted.

At least six men can be seen fighting in the 44 second clip, which was posted on Facebook on Sunday.

A man in a black t-shirt can be seen punching a man in a white shirt in the face, before he retaliates by aiming a punch at a different man. The man in the white shirt is then tripped to the ground at which point two men appear to aim a burst of quick punches at his head. The video cuts off with the fight continuing.

Sergeant John Kennedy, of Accrington Police, said: “It’s not acceptable. We won’t tolerate this kind of loutish and antagonistic behaviour on our streets.

“We’re obviously keen to get to the bottom of this incident. I’d ask anyone with information about who is involved or when it happened to come forward.

“When we identify these offenders we will take appropriate measures to ensure that justice is served.”

Sgt Kennedy said police had informed licensing about the incident.

Cllr Miles Parkinson, leader of Hyndburn Borough Council, said: “These are despicable actions and when it happens we want the people to be prosecuted and dealt with through the judiciary. “ Cllr Parkinson said incidents like this were rare in Accrington, partly due to the amount of licensed premises which have CCTV cameras. He also encouraged anyone with footage of criminal acts talking place to pass them on to the police.

Anyone with information is asked to call Accrington Police via 101 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111.
