ACCRINGTON’s Lancashire derby on Friday evening could make a little piece of footballing history – for all the wrong reasons.

Opponents Blackpool will be trying to complete a football game in England for the first time three months!

Safety officials have given the green light for Friday’s game in Accrington despite fears it could also be called-off.

It is believed talks with supporter groups have indicated that no disruption would take place at the game.

But two of the Tangerine’s last three matches were stopped by pitch invasions, while the other was played behind closed doors amid fears of a protest.

Morecambe Football Club called off a pre-season friendly versus Blackpool on Tuesday, citing intelligence received by both clubs.

The Shrimps said: “There was a strong possibility of the match being disrupted by protesting supporters and consequently the clubs have reluctantly agreed to the game’s cancellation.”

It was eventually played behind closed doors to avoid a massive policing bill.

The Seasiders’ game at Lancaster City on July 11, was abandoned after a pitch invasion and Pool’s last Championship game of the season against Huddersfield was also cut short .
