A MAN drove from Accrington to Darwen with his girlfriend in the car after drinking two bottles of vodka between them.

Blackburn magistrates heard later the same night Michael James Warner, 26, was driving back to Accrington when he crashed into another vehicle.

The driver of the other car said Warner appeared to be ‘off his head’ before getting a taxi and leaving the scene.

Warner, of Albert Street, Accrington, pleaded guilty to driving with excess alcohol.

He was made subject to community supervision for 12 months with a 15 day rehabilitation requirement, made subject to a curfew between 7 pm and 7 am for four weeks, banned from driving for 46 months and ordered to pay £85 costs and £60 victim surcharge.

Enza Geldard, prosecuting, said Warner, who was arrested in the taxi, had two previous convictions for drink driving.

Imran Hussain, defending, said his client accepted he should not have got behind the wheel.

“Fortunately nobody was injured,” said Mr Hussain.
