DETECTIVES have made an arrest in the hunt for the killer of a former Accrington Stanley captain’s brother in 2005.
Peter Cavanagh, Stanley skipper during his eight-year stint at The Crown Ground, led a number of appeals to find his younger brother Anthony’s killer.The Liverpool sailor, 22, was attacked while on shore leave with the Royal Navy, serving on HMS Cardiff, and died nearly two weeks later.

When Stanley were battling to restore their Football League status, Peter dedicated their Conference title triumph to Anthony.
Police have now confirmed that a 33-year-old man has been arrested at his home in Blundellsands on suspicion of murder.
An incident room is still operational at St Anne’s Street, in north Liverpool.
