The chain has applied for planning permission to create an extra 36 spaces on land to the east of its store on the Heys Lane Industrial Estate.

Documents revealed 24 spots would be for regular parking, six would be disabled spaces, and six would be for parent and children. The total number would be taken from 76 to 112.

In a design and access statement, HOW Planning, acting on behalf of Aldi, said: “The proposed development has been prepared in the light of high levels of demand during peak hours which is causing congestion.

“An extension to the car park in this location would not affect the environment or amenity of residents on Station Road.

“It would be situated on the eastern side of the site, which would place the existing store and car park between the residential properties and the additional spaces.

Access to the store and car park would remain the same.

A decision will be made in the near future by planning officers at Hyndburn Council.
