ACCRINGTON Academy's Tegan Davies has her sights set on judo glory after scoring her first victory in the contact sport.
Tegan, a Year Nine student at the academy, took to the crash mat 18 months ago after attending her first session in the popular martial art as part of a holiday enrichment day at the academy.
She now trains up to eight hours a week with the Bredakwai Judo Academy and recently took part in and won her first competition, the Lancashire Closed Championships, organised by the British Judo Association and held at Shadsworth Leisure Centre.
The victory was all the more impressive as Tegan, a yellow belt, was competing in a section where some opponents had the more senior ranking of green and blue belt.
Now thanks to her win, Tegan has earned herself a place on the North West Squad, competing at a national level. She is also working towards her Level 1 Coaching in Judo.
Her mum, Cassie Davies, said: "Iām extremely proud of Tegan for this brilliant achievement in her first Judo competition.
"She has dedicated a lot of time into training and coaching and all her efforts have paid off.ā
