A 30-YEAR-OLD man who set off to drive home after a row with his girlfriend crashed his car into a wall near a Rishton restaurant.

Blackburn magistrates heard Daniel Curwen ran off, abandoning his car.

But police were able to identify him from a mobile phone he left in the car and arrested him at his Great Harwood home. He later gave a blood alcohol reading nearly three times the legal limit.

Curwen, of Lomax Street, Great Harwood, pleaded guilty to driving with excess alcohol, failing to stop after a road accident and failing to report an accident. He was remanded on bail until June 15 for the preparation of a pre-sentence report.

Imran Hussain, defending, said his client accepted he had made a “very foolish” decision to drive home after a row with his girlfriend which would have far reaching consequences for him.

“He is in the second year of a criminology degree course and his ambition was to join the probation service,” said Mr Hussain.
