BLOOD was found on derelict land after a woman in a 'distressed' state was seen crouching beside a car and shouting.

Local police officers have voiced their concern for the well-being of the woman, who ran down a nearby alleyway when she was approached by passersby.

Witnesses who saw the incident unfold on land used for parking in Whalley Road, Clayton-le-Moors, described her as white, around 5ft 6in to 5ft 10in tall, of a medium build and in her mid-20s.

She had long blonde plaited hair which reached the middle of her back, and was wearing a white top, dark trousers or jeans, and a black scarf.

DS Ian Procter, of Blackburn CID, said: "We have had and continue to have officers in the area searching for the woman so that we can make sure she is ok and help her if needed.

“There was some blood discovered at the scene and we are concerned that the young woman may have fallen unwell or is in need of some medical attention and was clearly seen in a very distressed state.

“I would urge the young woman to come forward and to stress that you are not in any trouble, we just want to ensure that you are safe and well.”

People with information about the incident, which happened at around 7.30pm on Good Friday, have been asked to call police on 101, quoting log reference 1121 of April 3.
