A MAN has been taken to hospital after being found on railway tracks close to Church and Oswaldtwistle train station.

The emergency services were called to the scene, off Market Street, at around 10.40am.

The 'trespass incident' caused disruption for passengers on trains travelling through the area.

A spokeswoman for British Transport Police said: "Our officers were called to Church and Oswaldtwistle rail station shortly after 10.40am to reports of a person on the tracks.

“Officers, along with paramedics from the ambulance service attended, and the man was taken to a place of safety.”

Among the services affected was the 11.23am Colne to Blackpool South train, which started from Church and Oswaldtwistle.

And the 9.20am Blackpool South to Colne service, originally expected to arrive at 11.11am, also terminated at the Hyndburn station.

A spokesman for Network Rail said: "There was a trespass incident which affected the services.

"There were delays and emergency services were dealing with it."

A spokeswoman for the North West Ambulance Service said paramedics were called by police at around 11am to reports of a man on the tracks.

She said he was taken to Royal Blackburn Hospital to be assessed, although he was not hurt, and was 'conscious and breathing'.
