The 18-year-old will be raising money for the East Lancashire Hospice in memory of his grandmother Ruth, who died seven years ago.

Proud mum Sharon, of Highfield Close, Oswaldtwistle, said: “Lewis is amazing.

“He never ceases to amaze me with his constant enthusiasm to undertake a challenge.

“Lewis continues to lead an active life, enjoying swimming, skiing, horse riding, and wheelchair basketball despite his debilitating condition.”

It will be the fifth time the teen has completed the walk in memory of Ruth, who suffered from breast and lung cancer, and attended day therapy sessions at the hospice in Park Lee Road, Blackburn.

The walk, from 9.30am until 2pm on May 17, has been organised by the Rotary Club of Church and Oswaldtwistle and will start and finish in Clayton-le-Moors.

Walk organiser Richard Wallwork, said: “The Rotary club is very pleased Lewis has registered.

“He is a very brave young person and has raised over £1,300 for the hospice.”

More than 800 people are expected to take part in the five or 10k walks, or 5,000m fun run.

Musical group Blowjangles will be providing entertainment throughout the day.

The entrance fee is £5 or £7 on the day, while children under 12 go free.

Food and refreshments will be available along the route, as well as at the start or finish.
