A FIVE-YEAR-OLD boy was in intensive care last night after he suffered a suspected fractured skull in a collision with a car in Accrington.

Hussain Rashid was in an induced coma in Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital, his auntie told the Lancashire Telegraph.

The youngster collided with a Vauxhall Vectra near NH Food Ltd, in Brown Street, at around 8pm on Saturday.

Police said he was with three adults and a number of other children at the time.

Inspector Hassan Khan, from Lancashire Police, said: “He has got serious head injuries and is being treated at the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital. We are still carrying out an investigation.”

The road was cordoned off for some time following the incident, and police were due to review CCTV footage from NH Foods yesterday.

Brown Street, a 30mph zone, currently has temporary traffic lights while roadworks are carried out near the roundabout at its junction with Victoria Street and Ormerod Street.

One resident, who lives in nearby Jannat Close, said the road had caused problems in the past.

He said: “Sometimes it’s a nightmare when vans and lorries are parked at the bottom of Fountain Street.

“It makes it impossible to see either way down Brown Street.”
