HYNDBURN Council has thrown its support behind National Defrost Your Turkey Day.

Monday, December 22, should be pencilled into the diary of residents preparing to cook their festive dinners, the Food Standards Agency said.

Research shows only one in four people correctly defrost their turkey in the fridge, which takes about two days.

Head of Foodborne Disease at the FSA, Kevin Hargin, said: “We all love our turkey dinner at Christmas and this year should be no exception.

“It’s the little things you can do that make a real different so,If you make sure that your turkey is defrosted safely and in good time, you can enjoy your meal happily and safely.”

Deputy council leader Councillor Paul Cox added: “We’re all rushing around at Christmas and it’s easy to forget to defrost your turkey at the right time, so we’re happy to support the FSA campaign.”
