USERS of social media in Hyndburn have been warned they could be breaking the law by chatting online about the post office robbery in Rishton this month.

A police spokesman asked Facebook users to “refrain from making any comment which could prejudice these proceedings”.

The spokesman said: “Criminal proceedings are active and the individual named has the right to a fair trial.”

It is illegal to publish any material — such as an online post — which could sway a jury’s decision and impede the course of justice.

At Blackburn Magistrates’ Court, Daniel Quinn, 22, of Holme Slack Lane, Preston, was charged with robbery. He was remanded in custody.

Another man, 22, was arrested on suspicion of robbery and was released on bail.

Police want to speak to another man in connection with the incident.
