A MAN involved in cocaine street dealing was jailed for 21 months after a drugs stash was found at his home.

Burnley Crown Court heard how Kabir Aslam, 28, had cocaine to the tune of £500, cutting agents, snap bags and scales. Police also found £4,000, which they allege is drugs money, at the property, but Aslam insisted he knew nothing about the cash, which was discovered in a suitcase in his parents’ bedroom.

The defendant was said to have had financial problems and was trying to raise some funds to solve them.

Aslam’s taxi driver father, said to be ‘surprised, embarrassed and deeply disappointed’ with his son's behaviour, sat in the public gallery.

The defendant, of Cambridge Street, Accrington, admitted possessing cocaine with intent to supply, on February 7.

Daniel King, for Aslam, said: “The defendant denies ever knowing about that money, let alone having any connection with it.”

The solicitor said: “He’s not saying this is the first time he's done this. He has done it three or four times previously and he’s been paid for it.”

Mr King said the defendant conceded the drugs were associated with street dealing. His role was very limited.

Aslam was brought up in a decent, respectable, family and had no relevant previous convictions.

The solicitor continued: “The defendant found himself in some financial difficulties and saw this as a way of generating a small amount of income to try and help him with these difficulties.”

Aslam was in work, was considered to be at low risk of reconviction, and was capable of leading a productive and law abiding lifestyle.

Mr King said: “His father is surprised, embarrassed and deeply disappointed to find out his son has behaved in this way and describes him in every other way as an ideal son.

“He says his son has learned his lesson.”
