AN Oswaldtwistle pub aims to raise enough charity cash to fund 24 hours of care at East Lancashire Hospice.

Staff at The Plough, on Broadfield have set a target of raising more than £8,200, which is the cost of keeping the hospice and all its services running for a day.

As well as holding a regular charity quiz, staff have created a new dish and joined forces with Moorhouse’s Brewery to create their own East Lancashire Hospice Ale.

And for every ploughmans lunch sold £1.50 will go to the hospice, along with 10p from the sale of each pint.

The idea to raise enough money to keep the hospice running for day came from one of the pub owners, Andrea Rogan.

Andrea is a regular volunteer with the hospice and has been instrumental in getting the pub involved with a number of their fundraising events.

The Plough manager Andrew Livesey said: “My auntie was treated at the hospice and by working alongside them at recent events we have seen first hand a lot of the vital work they do.

“It costs over £8,200 per day to keep the hospice open so we’ve set ourselves a goal of raising that each year. We’ve got the ploughmans lunch and a special hospice beer which are going down really well with our customers.

“We came up with the idea of the beer and contacted Moorhouse’s Brewery who sat down with us to decide what we wanted it to taste like.

“It is a nice golden light bitter with its four per cent strength.

“We started raising funds for the hospice in June and will carry on our support by raising what the hospice needs in a day throughout the year until next June by hosting events.

“We want to give all year to give a day to the patients.”

Fundraiser Leanne Green said: “Our hospice is there for the community and The Plough is a part of that so we’re thrilled that they have made this pledge to raise enough to keep the hospice and all of its services running for a day.”
