A PLAN to erect a wind turbine behind homes has been approved in spite of fears it will create a ‘windmill city’.
Installation of the 65ft tall monopole mast behind homes in Colliers Row, Oswaldtwistle, was rubber stamped by Hyndburn planning councillors yesterday.
However some fear the application would give the green light for similar bids, which would see wind turbines populating the green belt area of land.
It led to one ward councillor, Peter Britcliffe saying applications were creating a ‘windmill city’.
Oswaldtwistle councillor Doug Hayes, who is on the planning committee, said: “We may be setting a precedent allowing these turbines so close to properties.
“We could make a decision that affects the whole borough.”
Campaigners against the bid also submitted a 60-signature petition, and 47 objection letters, to Hyndburn Council.
Councillors voted to approve the application by Yorkshire-based EWH1 in line with officers’ recommendations.
