A HUNCOAT church forced to close last month after ransacking thugs caused more than £2,000 of damage will re-open this weekend.
Our Lady’s Church halted services for the first time in its 90-year history after mindless yobs broke in, stole two chalices and left the building in ruins.
However, the chapel, known as a hidden gem of Hyndburn, will re-open for Mass at 6pm on Saturday with increased security, following determined community efforts.
The church’s parish priest Father Martin Saunders said: “We are delighted with the fact that our church is reopening.
“We are so very, very grateful to the local people for their help and support.”
Lancashire police are still appealling for information regarding the break-in, which occurred between 5pm on Friday, January 11, and 8am on Saturday, January 12.
