A SUPPORT agency in Accrington is looking for volunteers.
East Lancashire Advocacy helps people across the county who are struggling to find information, get advice or need guidance with making decisions.
The charity was set up in 1998 to aid residents with mental health troubles and learning disabilities with health and social care-related issues.
It invests heavily in staff and volunteers to provides a good quality of advocacy, however it is always in need of more help.
The organisation has been recognised through the achievement of the independent advocacy qualification.
Advocates look to empower people and give them the control they feel they do not have by listening, not judging and taking people seriously.
Practical aspects of the role involve providing people with relevant support and resources allowing them to make choices and speaking in plain English.
Advocates must have the patience to give people time to readjust and develop and encourage them to speak out and being on their side.
To get involved call 01254 301030 or visit the East Lancashire Advocacy Service, Blackburn Road.
