A COUNCIL has announced it is ‘officially breastfeeding friendly’, with the adoption of a new policy.
Breastfeeding mothers are to be made welcome within Hyndburn Council offices and other public buildings, such as Accrington Market Hall. The council has come out in support of breastfeeding after figures showed it can be one of most important ways to reduce infant deaths and the chances of mothers developing certain cancers.
Coun Pam Barton, Cabinet member for Health and Communities said: “The law supports mothers to breastfeed. In fact, many people don’t know is that it’s actually illegal for anyone to ask a breastfeed-ing woman to leave a public place. We will be looking at how we can support businesses to become breastfeeding-friendly.”
