AN MP has praised efforts to create a centralised electrical safety register.
Hyndburn MP Graham Jones said he supported the Contractors Association which recently launched the Electrical Safety Register. The register, which is available at www.electricalsafety register.com lists more than 36,000 contractors, to help homeowners find a safe electrician in their area.
All the companies on the Electrical Safety Register have been fully assessed to rigorous technical standards. The database is approved by the ESC and ECA who claim this makes it the definitive searchable database for competent electricians.
Mr Jones said: “Electrical safety is an issue that I think has largely been overlooked by those campaigning on health and safety in housing, particularly in the private rented sector. I would like to see greater enforcement of electrical safety standards, through the creation of a required electrical safety certificate for properties being rented.”
