A MOTORIST had to be cut free from her vehicle after a collision with another car in Accrington.

The accident, involving a Toyota Corolla and Ford Focus, happened at the junction of Ribblesdale Avenue and Marlborough Road, at 9.45am yesterday.

A woman, believed to be in her 30s, was trapped in the Toyota and was released by firefighters using specialist cutting equipment.

Crew manager Chris Archer, from Hyndburn Fire Station, said: “The car had been hit from the side and the female driver had to be cut from the Corolla. We gave her first aid and used cutters to open, and remove, the door.

The road was closed until the scene was clear.

Paramedics were on the scene, but there were no major injuries. An ambulance spokeswoman said: “There were no obvious injuries and both patients refused hospital treatment.”
