Hyndburn councillors to swap paper for iPads

COUNCILLORS are to receive specialist iPad training after a borough made the switch to ‘paperless meetings’.

Hyndburn Council recently made funding available for councillors to purchase their own iPads, as part of cost cutting measures.

Members of the council now use iPads to read agendas, after the council reduced the amount given to each member for internet access packages, and printing costs.

Training sessions are now being given to councillors after identifying different training needs among councillors.

The scheme is part of a ‘bring your own device to work initiative put in place last year and aimed at cost saving.

Hyndburn Council’s IT chiefs are expected to soon compile a report as to the success of the idea.

Part of the new procedures encourage council officers and councillors to communicate via email, rather than by letter and post.

what a joke they have been given funding to buy there own ipads at £450 at least each I cant have a ipad yet my taxes can be used so some fat councilor can have one plus money for training and there expenses on top of that

BYOD....good idea if you have the security to implement it and as long as the councillors are buying their own equipment then this will save money. I just hope they don't store any confidential or sensitive documents on their personal equipment or the council will be breaching the data protection act...

Cut back on other things like potholes,street lights etc etc etc and spend the money on iPads ,sounds just about right,charge people bedroom rents cut benefits for the elderly and disabled just to keep themselves happy.what next?

First of all how much is this training costing knowing the coucil thousands, Why should they be funded just to spend more time on facebook and how much is the contract for each ipad for sim interenet use going to cost they dont tell you this i wonder why.

Next it will be new out fits to go with their designer ipods, What about a training course on not to waste peoples tax money on fancy expenses if there so keen on representing the public they should buy there own ipods like a mecanic,hair dresser or student as to buy theire own tools.
It should be the people of hyndburn who have the say about their expenses not the council we pay theirs wages more foolish us.

All I can say is put them all on the min wage and they will soon find out how to save money instead of fattening themselfs up with fancy meals and designer shopping for ipods with their expenses their taking the mick and people should let them know do you get expenses for going to work I think not.
DOES MPS EXPENSES RING A BELL Theire all in the same boat and the plug needs pulling out for at sea with them all on it

Every Councill should be made by law to publish theire expenses every year in theire local newspaper this wont happen untill people fight to bring it in, they will try every trick in the book to stop this happining because it will be like taking the cream from the fat cat.
If it were to happen they would have to go into hiding from the shame for what they have claimed for because the public would feel like stringing them up for what they have abused their powers for a lavish lifestyle instead.
Take the MPs expenses those fat cats that were convicted also scapegoats for the rest of the bigger fat cats were the sent to jail no.Why to many tales to tell

PS there are a few decent Concillers and MPs out there that don't rob the tax payer with theire expenses but for between
